Krista Ranillo is Cristalle Lauren Tupaz Ranillo in real life. She is the daughter of veteran actor Matt Ranillo III. It can be remembered that Matt became famous with his portrayal of the role of Jesus Christ (Kristo) in his movies. Thus, the name Krista was coined in her daughter's name.
Krista is no ordinary actress. She was a consisten dean's lister in her college days. She graduated at the Ateneo de Manila with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studeis with tracks in Communications and Psychology.
As memeber of the Ranillo family, she was not able to avoid the call of show business and her first assignment was "Lira" in GMA-7. "Lira" was a drama television series that aired from 1992 to the summer of 1996. Krista Ranillo played the role of Shayne opposite Shaina Magdayao Eula Valdez, Vina Morales and German Moreno.
Her next assignment was another drama series titled "Rio Del Mar" which was produced by T.A.P.E. Inc. and was aired over GMA Network. She played the role of Giselle along with a poerful cast which includes Vivial Velez, Michael de Mesa, Aiza Seguerra and others. Rio Del Mar is a story about family, friendship, deception and betrayal.
At the end of Rio Del Mar, Krista joined GMA's noontime musi/variety show "SOP" which aired from 12pm to 3 pm on Sundays. She played as a performer of the show and many noticed her extra-ordinary talent in her performances.
Krista then guested in "Kool Ka Lang", a comedy series which was starred by Raymart Santiago, Joey Marquez and others. In the same year (2001) krista was included in the cast of another drama series "Hawak Ko Ang Langit" of which she portrayed the role of Diane.
In the next year, she was included in the launch of the first ever cine novela in the Philippines titled "Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw". It was one of the grandest projects of GMA-7 in history and Krista was so overwhelmed that she was included in the cast. She portrayed the role of Scarlet in the said project.
She then played a supporting cast role in a Regine Velasquez - Richard Gomez starrer titled "Forever In My Heart" as Gem. After her supporting role in "Forever in My Heart", Krista became a freelance actress and she guested in TV5 show "Chopsuey". She then casted in "HushHush" along with Bernard Palanca, Dominic Ochoa and joseph Bitangcol.
Then a bigger break arrived. Krista was chosen by ABS-CBN bigwigs to portray the love interest of Ryan Agoncillo. Krista portrayed as the girlfriend of Rigor (Ryan Agoncillo) and also the mother of Rigor's child. Krista's portrayal of her role not only showcased her sexy body but also her acting prowess which was noticed by many showbiz critics. That show also marked her transfer to the Kapamilya network.
She was then given a title role in "The Bud Brothers" episode titled "Once in a Lifetime Love" where she plays the role of Lily Rose. She was joined by Roy Alvarez as her father, Ram Sagad, Princess Ryan and Frank Garcia as Leon.
Krista also guested for one week in "May Bukas Pa" as Mia. Her role was a tomboyish young woman who does every work that she can just to support her family. She basically does what she can, a taxi driver or even becoming a circus entertainer.
Krista also starred in different movies which include "Two Timer", "Most Wanted", "Iskul Bukol: 20 Years After", "Paupahan" and "Wapakman". The last was an official entry to the Metro Manila Film festival and although she was not the leading lady of Manny Pacquiao, she became very controversial due to the reports about her relationship with the Pacman off the camera.
That controversy even over shadowed the vistory of Pacquiao over Miguel Cotto that the press kept on talking about it. The couple were reportedly seen in different places which includes Baguio, the training place of Pacquiao. They were reportedly seen also in a car together in the streets of Los Angeles.
Krista nevertheless kept mum on the issue and the controversy then gradually subdued.
